Bug Description

Binary package hint: xrdp

xrdp 0.4 logs in successfully with vnc4server. However the desktop is unusable, it being flashing [i.e clear/draw](ing) all the time.

Steps to reproduce: sudo apt-get install xvnc vnc4server vnc4-common
Connect to localhost with built-in Terminal Client

FIX: use tightvncserver instead....

Can you expand on what you mean by "use tightvncserver instead" ?

Do you mean uninstall something else and replace it with tightvncserver? If so, what is that something else?

Do you mean change a configuration file to point to tinghtvncserver? If so, what configuration file?

Or something else?

On my 9.04 system using xrdp-0.4.0~dfsg-9, I also experience the flicker. The system is a default install of Ubuntu 9.04 plus xrdp, and it has several vnc packages installed:

$ dpkg -l | grep -i vnc
ii libgtk-vnc-1.0-0 0.3.8-2ubuntu2 A VNC viewer widget for GTK+ (runtime librar
ii tightvncserver 1.3.9-4 virtual network computing server software
ii vinagre 2.26.1-0ubuntu1 VNC client for the GNOME Desktop
ii vino 2.26.1-0ubuntu1 VNC server for GNOME
ii vnc4-common 4.1.1+xorg1.0.2-0ubuntu7 Virtual network computing server software
ii vnc4server 4.1.1+xorg1.0.2-0ubuntu7 Virtual network computing server software

Fixed it by removing xrdp and associated dependencies (vnc4server and vnc4-common), installing tightvnc and then installing xrdp (which then doesn't use vnc4).

Cheers,

i hope i can help to make it reproduceable , i have nearly the same problem with my raspberry.
With the User "PI" it works fine. with the user "blabla" (mentioned below) it works partly.

#error described:
-user blabla connects to pi ,
-blabla get the sesman log window and then the prepared desktop (like 2 seconds white grey stripes)
- when the desktop is fully loaded i see the wastebasket but the launchbar isnt there
the visual effect is : there is a white place holder where the launchbar is. which seems to be reloaded every second which result in flickering because the white place holder reappear every time. after some minutes i get a disconect which isnt the case with the "pi" user

for reproduktion :)

Raspbian Wheezy
Release date: 2015-05-05
Kernel version: 3.18

Xrdp version 0.5.0-2 ,

the pi is used with remote desktop program(not the windows one) and was only on a physical display for ssh activation and gui activation (MAYBE 1 time with gui on physical monitor i cant remember) the normal way is then

-connect via ssh and make the pi rdy for XRDP

-sudo apt-get update
-sudo apt-get upgrade
-sudo apt-get install xrdp
-sudo adduser blabla

here i got the first flickering and thought it was permission stuff so i added blabla to root with
-sudo visudo

but the error remains.

while writing i thought about to get into the new user - 1 time with physical monitor and set the launcher . and try xrdp again

hope it helps abit
