Bug Description

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System -> About Ubuntu
Ubuntu 16.10

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname' or by checking in Software Center
4.8.0-1

3) What you expected to happen
No error message. "Start Xpad automatically..." option checked. Autostart in next session login.

4) What happened instead
Error message. "Start Xpad automatically..." option unchecked. No autostart in next session login.

In Xpad Preferences -> Startup tab:
Checking the "Start Xpad automatically after login" option brings up the following error message:
"Error enabling Xpad autostart
Could not copy /usr/share/applications/xpad.desktop to /home/$USER/.config/autostart/xpad.desktop
Error opening file '/home/$USER/.config/autostart/xpad.desktop': No such file or directory"

Upon inspection in my system there's no /home/$USER/.config/autostart directory, and since it's a fairly recent OS install I'm assuming it's not created during install.

Both "mkdir /home/$USER/.config/autostart" and "ln -s /home/$USER/.config/upstart /home/$USER/.config/autostart" solve the issue, so I guess Ubuntu or xpad package need to be patched.

Cheers,
Eneko

This is an unsupported release now. Please think to install the next LTS 'Bionic 18.04'

No, marking as Invalid because the release is EOL is not correct. Please don't do this, dino99.

Reporter, is this still present on 17.10?

I can confirm that this issue is still present in Lubuntu 17.10, installed clean 2 days ago with the "download updates while installing" option enabled.
