Bug Description

.xoj files in dolphin (I'm using kubuntu 12.04) are recognized as Gzip archive and hence are opened in Ark.

This bug: #70520 suggests that there used to be a bug with the file association solved in 2006.

When I go to System Settings -> File Associations -> application/x-xoj , there is a "Xournal note file" but somehow the files are still recognized as Gzip archive.

Ok, I had just installed xournal and now after logout/login the association works correctly. In case that this is the intended behaviour, this bug can be closed.

Still it is irritating - I don't remember that it was ever necessary to logout/login to get associations working after installing any program.

I have installed Xournal from source, and I can't get .xoj files to be opened with Xournal, despite having
* xournal.xml in /usr/share/mime/packages/
* x-xoj.desktop in /usr/share/mimelnk/application/
* the line `application/x-xoj=xournal.desktop;` in ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list
* the MIME type `application/x-xoj` in the [File Associations] System Setting (specifying Xournal and not even mentioning Ark).
I have restarted the computer multiple times. .Xoj files still are identified as "Gzip archive" and opened with Ark. Since they are not identified as their own MIME type, there is no way to change what application opens them.
This may be a KDE issue.

Actually it's probably caused by magic. Whether or not it's specific to KDE, I couldn't say. See here:
