Ubuntu 12.04 seems buggy as hell with NVidia drivers. I built a new system with a 9500GT card and two monitors in anticipation of the 12.04 release. I couldn't work more than a couple of minutes at a time in Unity 3D before a complete freeze. Additionally, while logging in I would often get artifacts at the top of the screen. Switching to Unity 2D made the freezes less frequent but they still happened.

Finally I got fed up. I am interested in using this system for actual work as opposed to beta testing for the Ubuntu devs, so I threw in a 8500GT card that I had sitting on the shelf. It doesn't freeze up any more even in Unity 3D mode, but about every couple of hours it just completely logs me out. I'm fairly certain I have the same bug mentioned by others in this thread. Logs show this right before the surprise logout:

Tomorrow when I get time I will try downgrading to the 295.33 drivers (I am currently running 295.49). Googling Ubuntu 12.04 nvidia problem gives about 500,000 results, so I'm kicking myself for not waiting another few months to upgrade. So much for "LTS", lol...
