Bug Description

After my last reboot I can't start up my laptop. After login screen loading when I use any pointing device (internal touchpad or external mice) x-org will crash and go to console with no errors. If i don't use mice and typing password in login screen system try to load full environment but over a time it will crash to the console and after that load login screen.

In recovery mode it the same except if I not using mice it load full unity environment but if I try touch mice it still crash and go back to console and login screen after that.

Sorry for my english.

I see in backtrace (XorgLog.txt) this: /usr/bin/X (GetPointerEvents+0x430) [0x8088290]
Maybe it happens when last updates come. It updated many unity plugins.
How can I reanimate my laptop? I really need it to work.

RussianNeuroMancer: for x-server i don't use ppa, but I use https://launchpad.net/~unity-2d-team/+archive/unity-2d-daily for unity 2d.

I made following:
sudo service lightdm stop (because it block Xserver)
sudo Xorg -configure
sudo mv ~/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf
sudo service gdm start
And desktop was loaded but my touchpad working bad and desktoop seems weird. But after reboot i can't see my login page only wallpaper from it and sudo service gdm start is like it.

After last update, my ubuntu start crashing and kicking me to the login page each time I move or click the mouse. I tried both devises i have: PS/2 and USB - same result. I use unity-2d from ppa, but this crash happen even on the login screen (before any session is loaded).

Then I found the reason: http://askubuntu.com/questions/101308/xorg-segmentation-fault-seems-to-be-relevant-to-evdev

after I downgraded xserver-xorg-core to 2:1.10.4-1ubuntu4.1 the problem disappeared:
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-core=2:1.10.4-1ubuntu4.1

it seems "Fix crash on accepting a touch grab from an indirect device" patch broke my ubuntu.

In config set to suspend when closing lid in both cases (from battery and AC).

Alexander, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg-server REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.
