Thanks for your bug report. I'm re-targeting this to xorg, as it is the correct package for problems like this. I'm not familiar with debugging xorg issues, but I can help you attach relevant system information and log files so that others can help you. From a terminal could you please run the following command:
apport-collect 887794

After you do that you can go ahead and change the status of this report back to new.

This sounds like an X crash however apport-collect appears to have failed to attach the logs we need. Perhaps you can do this manually. Please attach the following from right after reproducing this bug:

  * /var/log/Xorg.0.log
  * /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old
  * /etc/X11/xorg.conf
  * sudo dmesg > dmesg.txt
  * lspci > lspci.txt

Thanks ahead of time.

I have the same problem: Bug #899531 (already marked as duplicate).
Since I removed Ubuntu 11.04 and installed 11.10, the system crashes nearly everyday without any prior warning and the login-screen appears. The same behavior in Gnome 3. Only LXDE seems to work (no crashes since I installed it before 10 days).
