Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

My system is described here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/HP_Pavilion_DV8220EA

Install is Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn) Herd 4.

After bug #87496 I installed nvidia-glx which has now broken my graphics configurations.

Xorg gives warning: 'NVIDIA: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:1:0:0) found'. And error: 'No devices detected'. 'Fatal server error: no screens found'.

Is this connected with the troubles in bug #63625 ?
Please see attached files. Anything else I can provide to get running again?

I can work around this with:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

and setting the driver to nvidia - not using the suggested simpler method. Reconfiguring has however set my keyboard to the wrong keymap, EN I think.

Same problem here with a GeForce 7900 GS.

The problem might be linked to the fact I also have an internal nvidia graphic card (6150) and only occurs with nvidia binary drivers. Use lspci to detect the bus your gcard is connected to then manually change it in xorg.cong works also.

sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

doesn't detect the right port, you have to provide it manually.

if you use "nvidia", you must comment dri in /etc/X11/xorg.conf

could you attach the output of 'lspci -vvnn'?

I've attached the output of 'sudo lspci -vvnn' (what's that '-vvnn' bit?) but I'm pasting here the bit I guess you're interested in, it's marked clearly with a row of '#' in the file.

Duncan: thanks for the information. I wonder why the card is listed as "PCI:0:5:0" in this config, and "PCI:1:0:0" in the one from bug #87496. Changing it to the latter should make it work.

I would just like to confirm that changing "PCI:0:5:0" in xorg.conf to "PCI:1:0:0" solved this problem.
