The problem is with splash, disabling this in the grub boot should fix your problem. While the initial report does mention ATI the problem occurs with both Nvidia and Ati proprietary drivers. There is also an option of adding "vga=791" to /boot/grub/menu.lst but it has not worked for everyone.
The fact that you can go back to F7 afterwards confirms for me that this is indeed a duplicate so I am going to mark it as such.
