I have tried with Kubuntu 6.10 and Xubuntu 6.10 and the problem persists.

Into Debian Etch (testing) I can change the resolution, but not the hertz.

In Knoppix 5.0.1, it catches her without problems.

Debian Etch uses xorg and Knoppix 5.0.1 is based on Debian Woody (uses xfree).

With xfree, my graphic card works without no problem (included graphic aceleration).

Can you make a package of xfree so that ubuntu is compatible with old graphical cards?

Sorry, I do not know what Debian's version is based Knoppix 5.0.1, I believed that in Woody, but I do not know it.

What yes I have seen on having initiated the system is that IT DOES NOT USES XFREE, USES XORG with tdfx, and the card works correctly to 1024x768 and 85 hertz.
