Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

Hi everyone,

Initially have filled in this bug report on KDE bug tracking system but they've redirected me here and also said that "X is crashing" (KDE bug id 52398),

So here it is the story again:

Using Kubuntu Maverick (10.10) with stock KDE 4.5.1 and current nvidia driver (260.19.06). Works OK with one monitor but the moment I enable xinerama in an attempt to set up dual head config, I can no longer get to the desktop - it crashes with segmentation fault just after the "K" letter is shown. For a split second both monitors come to life (so it loads quite a bit before giving up).

Without xinerama, I can even enable 2 monitors with nvidia-setting - although not much use for such a config since one monitor is blank (but I can move the mouse on it so I know it's working). However, the moment I turn xinerama on ... kabooom !

I am writing this bug report with Xinerama tunred off - I am not sure whether ubuntu-bug -p xorg works in the absence of X (console mode) but I will try.

I will try to append the xorg.conf file as well.

Forgot to mention that this issue is always reproducible.

Same issue here, Xinerama causes X to segfault with three monitors. If I disable Xinerama it works fine with one monitor.

Same issue here, only 2 monitors. If I disable Xinerama, works well tough.

I can do things like DISPLAY=:0:1 xterm for example or konsole. But will segfault with firefox.

Feel free to ask for log or conf files. Thanks.

Is this the same bug as filed in this bug report:
    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/maverick/+source/xorg-server/+bug/650539

I'm in the process of installing the temporary fix the other bug report lists so I don't know if it is the same as what is affecting us...
