Screen configuration misses horizontal/virtical refresh rates

Bug Description

I used the kubuntu live-cd Dapper release, Beta2

It appeared the screen device was detected properly, however there were no horizontal sync and verticall refresh rates set.

Section "Monitor"
        Identifier "MD30217PG"
        Option "DPMS"
EndSection

I fixed it by adding those:
Section "Monitor"
        Identifier "MD30217PG"
        Option "DPMS"
        HorizSync 30-83
        VertRefresh 56-76
EndSection

xorg then started just fine.

Graphics card: ATI radeon 9250 (RV280) PCI version.
17" tft monitor, resolution: 1280x1024 @75Hz

Can you please provide your xorg, conf file and /var/log/Xorg.0.log?

There have been quite a few ATI fixes. You could test with the daily live CD.

The xorg.conf and xorg.log files, produced by the kubuntu live cd of 09-05-2006

It appears that the driver is set to vesa instead of ati.
The horizSync/vertRefresh isn't set too, but after all didn't seem to make a difference

Loading with dri enabled still freezes my computer !!!!!!

As a side note:
Since dri is enabled by default it will freeze in case xorg can detect my ati 9250 PCI card.

Although xorg is moving nicely, it appears that radeon support has decreased quite a bit.
Or perhaps its the dri part, but this card is horribly slow with xorg 7.0 (with dri disabled of course)

There are allready numerous bugs filed against the dri/xorg freezing, but it would be really nice if this gets solved for dapper ;-)

Thanks,
Remon

Thanks Remon. This sounds very similar to other bugs people have reported with monitors not being detected correctly. i'm grouping these together as dupes of each other; if you determine differently please let me know.
