Also, could you explain exactly what happens? Do you have more than one monitor? Which version of Ubuntu are you running?

I use live edition of 6.06 beta amd64
The display is ok until (i things) xorg configure the board
The start up music is ok but the display stay black

I have Acer Aspire 5024WLMi as well, but (K)ubuntu 6.06 Dapper installed on my hard drive.
I've never managed to start the X-window system with "ati" driver (the screen goes always blank), but the "fglrx" driver works for me - in the latest versions the 3D-accelleration doesn't work, but the basic feature (like showing the 1200x800 screen :D) do.
