Screen display unusable on Dell Latitude C800

Bug Description

Installed Flight 4 CD of Dapper onto Dell Latitude C800 which previously had run Breezy perfectly. Dapper installation was from scratch -- removed partitions and reinstalled into free space. After installation, the screen was competely unusable in X. In effect, the screen repeats itself horizontally with some fuzzy bands. Console is fine.

Graphics Chipset is in fact "Rage Mobility 128 AGP 4X" but /etc/X11/xorg.conf labels it as "Rage Mobility M4 AGP".

Should have noted: this is actually the *Kubuntu* Dapper release. (In case it makes a difference)

Hi!

Can you please follow the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingXAutoconfiguration for Ubuntu >= 5.04 and provide us with the outputs? You might also consider trying to change the driver detected by the xorg script to the one that you have used previously from Breezy.

Thanks,

Zakame

I finally got round to re-upgrading to dapper. (I'd gone back to Breezy to get a working laptop). And it works! If it's helpful, I can still produce the output requested above, but obviously I won't if it's not going be of any use.

Many thanks to everyone involved in -- albeit indirectly -- solving this problem.

Cool. Tagging this now as fixed. If in any case it happens again for Dapper Beta, please indicate so. Thanks.
