Binary package hint: xorg
I am using Kubuntu Intrepid 8.10 with KDE 4.1.4 on a Compaq Presario 773EL notebook. The video card is a GM965 which uses the intel driver.
I installed the last version of Google Earth: 5.0.11337.1968 (beta). I noticed several problems with it, such as flashing and texture errors. After a while, the X server crashed and the system hung.
Some useful info:
$ apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-video-intel
