Bug Description

I use Ubuntu 8.10 and I have problem adjusting brightness using Fn+Up/Down keys on my Dell Studio 1535 laptop. Brightness changes as I press the keys, but OSD indicator (progressbar) begins to move to max/min position when I stop pressing the keys. That would not bother me, but the worst think is that after this no single menu/popupmenu in gtk/gnome/xfce applications (I did not test it with qt/kde) is shown. E.g. when I click "File" in firefox, "File" gets highlighted, but no menu is shown. The same apply for gnome panel menus and other applications. It happens no matter if compiz is enabled or dissabled.

Video card is Intel X31OO. Let me know if you need more information.

This bug seems simular to Bug #261721. Are you able to use your keyboard to type after pressing the Fn brightness keys?

No, I am not. Switching to another VT and back helps.
