[intrepid] video playback corrupted - display driver/Xorg?

Bug #293118 reported by Dennis Sacks
6
Affects Status Importance Assigned to Milestone
xorg (Ubuntu)
Confirmed
Undecided
Unassigned

Bug Description

Binary package hint: yelp

video playback is flawed since I upgraded to Intrepid Ibex. If I play a video (any format) with Totem or VLC I see the video, but the playback is flawed - the video image disappears briefly maybe once a second. If I move my mouse during playback, the flashing increases. Its like the playback is being affected by I/O interrupts or something.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.10
ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/yelp
NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx
Package: yelp 2.24.0-0ubuntu2
ProcEnviron:
 PATH=/home/username/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games:/usr/local/lib/neko:/usr/local/lib/haxe:/usr/local/wxlua/bin
 LANG=en_US.UTF-8
 SHELL=/bin/bash
SourcePackage: yelp
Uname: Linux 2.6.27-7-generic i686

not a yelp issue, could be a video driver one since you're having the same issue with totem and VLC. this reports needs to be reassigned.

Oh, sorry, I didn't mean for it to be listed as a yelp issue.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. To help with finding the cause of the problem can you attach the following files:
/etc/X11/xorg.conf
/var/log/Xorg.0.log
And also the output of 'lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log'
Thank you.

I noticed this only happens with the visual effects switched on, whenever i turn them off the flashing stops. I dont know if this will help but thats just waht i have noticed. i am running ubuntu 8.10 on a hp tx2525nr. It has the architecture of a 64 bit but i decided to run a 32 bit version instead.
