Bug Description

Hardy Heron

I just got an acer x193w LCD monitor and I am getting the error message "Input not supported" before Ubuntu loads up and aduring shut down. After searching acer's website this error is caused by display resolution set too high.

According to acer's instruction the monitor should be set at
1440 X 900 @ 60Hz when I look into the Hardy sytem/Preference screen resolution it is set as recommeneded.

I have search and looked and it seems that many have this problem or very similar but I have seen no solution to this

Acers book information states:

H-Frequency 30KHz - 81KHz
V-Ffrequency 55 - 76 Hz
Max. Resolution 1440 x 900 @ 60Hz

IN the attach file you will find copy of
xorg.conf xrandr ddcprobe get-edid|parse-edit

I have edited my xorg according to some sugetsionsI did read but no change as well as I have installed the ATI proprietary drivers as per Ubuntu Howto

Hope this will be of some help

I have found that Puppy Linux 4.08 has solved the problem. I am not enough of a programer to know what they have done or if it will work if I coppied it to Ubunto. Puppy works, Ubunto runs the "Input not supported" error for a while before the Log In Screen comes up.

Please attach your Xorg.0.log. Also run `lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.txt` and attach that file.

(Also, it's helpful to us if you attach each output as a separate file rather than concatenated, but thanks for providing all that info).

I would also recommend trying to boot with no xorg.conf, as the one you've used has a variety of settings which may conflict. Once you do so, please attach a new Xorg.0.log from that try.

It's interesting that you got it working on that other distro, there are several possible reasons why that may be; it would be interesting to see your xorg.conf and Xorg.0.log from that in addition to the above.

Also, btw if you've installed -fglrx previously, it can cause problems when trying to run -ati, as it sometimes doesn't uninstall properly. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/FglrxInteferesWithRadeonDriver
