Server fails to start on AMD64 machine with X300 mobility

Server segfaults on start. First failure mode:

In the DDC output, DDC type for the secondary head contains garbage. The code
then proceeds, finally printing

"RADEON(0): BIOS provided dividers will be used."

and then gets a signal 11. Commenting out the ddc module gives

"RADEON(0): XAAInit Error"

and then gets a signal 11.

An i386 install on the same machine fails with

RADEON(0): Largest offscreen area available: 1024x7421

and then receives SIGILL

hacky resolution in-tree. but could I get a full Xorg.0.log, and also, does
POSTing the chip beforehand help?
