Bug Description

I added an NVIDIA GeForce to my box, but when I rebooted the graphics card
wasn't detected. Assuming the system might not detect the change on the fly, I
tried booting using both a Hoary and Breezy Colony-3 LiveCD, but it wasn't
picked up. I asked on #ubuntu as to whether it should be auto-detected, and was
told it should be. Based on reading
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia, it sounds like it should be
detected since it says to use Synaptic (which seems to suggest that X is
running). Please let me know if there's any more details or information I can
provide to help with this.

What do you mean by 'graphics card wasn't detected'? Right now, you have to run
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg, in a terminal, for things to work
properly. If there is some other problem, please attach Xorg.0.log and xorg.conf.

Sorry for not being more specific. What I meant was that xorg wasn't configured
to use the card and seemed to still think it should be using the onboard intel
card. I did the reconfigure like you suggested, but it didn't work. Also, I've
tried using Breezy Colony 3 & 4 LiveCD's, and can't get X to come up -- it says
configuring x failed (sorry, I'm not in front of the machine, so can't see the
message).

Ah, I see. Right now we don't support that sensibly.

Change the Driver in the Device section to "nv" (or "nvidia"), and change the
BusID to whatever it lists your GeForce as being in lspci.
