Bug Description

A recent Ubuntu update is keeping the GPU software of Folding at Home (Folding@Home) from working. Past updates have not interfered with it.

Expected result:
An updated nvidia (proprietary) driver would be installed with the update that continues to work smoothly, provides OpenCL, etc.

Actual result:
The update caused FAH to disable its GPU processing capabilities. OpenCL is mentioned in the error message, so there may be something wrong with the OpenCL installation in the nVidia v390 package.

Thanks for the bug report. It appears you no longer have an nvidia kernel driver for the current kernel version. I'm also not sure if such a newer kernel can be supported by the old nvidia 390 driver.

This might just be bug 1975650 so please try reinstalling the driver using the 'Additional Drivers' app or:

  sudo apt install --reinstall nvidia-driver-390

and reboot. If reinstalling the driver doesn't solve the problem then I wonder if nvidia-390 requires sticking to an older kernel?

affects: xorg (Ubuntu) → linux-hwe-6.5 (Ubuntu)
