Bug Description

xutils contains some pretty important X utilities like mkfontdir and a ton of
others. And the xutils_6.8.2-42_i386.deb on all the Breezy repositories right
now is almost completely empty. It's only got /usr/share/doc/xutils/* in it --
nothing else!

xutils_6.8.2-10_i386.deb is 870410 bytes long.
xutils_6.8.2-42_i386.deb is 62372 bytes long.
Something is wrong here. :-)

I just tried upgrading my system to Breezy, and hit this problem. My system is
completely broken until whatever went wrong with xutils gets fixed. Please
hurry. :-)

Upgrading severity to "blocker" since this causes X to be completely unusable,
at least on my system.

It's not just xutils:

rmunn@localhost:~/tmp$ ls -l xserver-xorg_6.8.2-*
-rw-r--r-- 1 rmunn rmunn 5449946 2005-07-22 10:34 xserver-xorg_6.8.2-10_i386.deb
-rw-r--r-- 1 rmunn rmunn 275428 2005-07-22 10:34 xserver-xorg_6.8.2-43_i386.deb

Conspicuously lacking from the xserver-xorg_6.8.2-43 package is anything
whatsoever in /usr/X11R6! All it contains is /usr/share/doc/xserver-xorg/*,
/usr/share/bug/xserver-xorg, and /usr/bin/Xorg (which is a symlink to
../X11R6/bin/Xorg, a file that the package does *not* install).

Something definitely went wrong in the build process for this package.

Conspicuously present in xserver-xorg is a Depends on about seventy other
packages, which provide other useful things.

You're right; I just noticed the Depends: in xserver-xorg myself. *blush*

However, I haven't found the missing contents of xutils_6.8.2-42_i386.deb yet;
that part of my report is still valid.

I've been able to pin the old version of xutils and get my system back up, so
I'm downgrading this report to "major" instead of "blocker". I still think the
xutils .deb got messed up somehow...

Was the intention that mkfontdir should be included in xfonts-utils along with
update-fonts-dir and so on? It's not there either; it's completely missing.

I agree and set it as NEW.

In reply to #5 and #7:

I don't know exactly at what point the package got fixed, but my current version
of xfonts-utils is xfonts-utils_6.8.2.1-3_i386.deb, and it does contain
mkfontdir, update-fonts-dir, and so on. I'm currently running Breezy without any
problems. My thanks to whoever fixed this.

Closing bug as FIXED.
