Bug Description

xserver-xorg configuration does not allow using external VGA output on a
PowerBook G3/400. It needs at least a second monitor section.

I don't have the universal solution anyhow as I couldn't make it work with
manual tweaking.

It doesn't work with r128, but should work by default on Intel i8xx and ATI
Radeon chipsets. Don't know about nv.

The severity of this bug was changed to "enhancement" a few moments ago.

But in my bug 21424 my problem was that the screen on my laptop was
misconfigured, basically making X unusable with the autogenerated config. That
is a higher severity than "enhancement" I think, though I don't know the
specifics of how ubuntu bugs are rated.

That does sound like a different issue. Daniel?

This is probably also the reason that the external VGA does not work correctly in X on my Compal CL56 with an ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 M10. It uses a SXGA+ 1400x1050 resolution which isn't supported by the external monitor.
