Bug Description

When starting from the live iso the fonts flicker and some are missing. When mousing over them they return but then they disappear as soon as you remove the mouse from the top of them.
After installing xorg-edgers/ppa and applying the newest nvidia drivers with intel microcode the font issue disappears.

Brett, Sergio can you please do anything test. Install Ubuntu MATE 15.10 daily, install the Intel microcode but retain the Open Source nouveau driver. Does the problem persist with that configuration?

and install xdiagnose, and run 'apport-collect 1501658'

@Martin
Ok, I tried the latest Ubuntu Mate ISO from oct 02/2015
Same problem in live mode... tweaked some settings (rgb, vrgb, etc... ) VRGB is better but not perfect at all...
Installed to SSD and boot, fonts still messed, installed Intel microde, rebooted and problem persisted. Another reboot, same thing.
The only way to fix was installing the nvidia drivers, however on first boot after nvidia, system froze, not able to even use keyboard or mouse... but fonts were OK
Time for a second installation; with nvidia drivers system is working fine.
It seems to be a very disturbing bug, mainly in live mode.

Brett Stevens, could you please run the following command from a terminal as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg 1501658

Please ensure you have the package xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Brett Stevens, to clarify your Description:
>"After installing xorg-edgers/ppa and applying the newest nvidia drivers with intel microcode the font issue disappears."

If you just change to the nvidia drivers from the Ubuntu repositories as outlined in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia
(not install xorg-edgers PPA or install microcode) is the issue still reproducible?

+ 10de:1381 [Asus B85M-E] Missing fonts and flickering font rendering

Christopher if I don't install the xorg edgers ppa and just install the Nvidia drivers the font rendering problem is no where near as bad. It still flickers but all fonts are present on the screen. As soon as the Intel microcode is installed and I do a reboot it's perfect.

Brett Stevens, what happens when you only install the Intel microcode (not Nvidia drivers or xorg-edgers PPA)?

The fonts are missing and flickering with only Intel microcode installed

Just tried today's (oct/14) daily live ISO of Ubuntu MATE in live mode, problem persists and as mentioned above if I change fonts to VRGB it gets better, but some windows do lose/flicker fonts/characters.

Sergio Schneider, it will help immensely if you filed a new report via a terminal:
ubuntu-bug xorg

Please ensure you have the package xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information.

Also, please feel free to subscribe me to it.
