X server fails to set correct mode on resume from sleep (NVIDIA: Setting a mode on head 0 failed: An invalid mode was requested)

Using a really picky Dell P2415Q monitor through DP->mDP (displayport -> mini displayport) cable, nvidia binary driver version 352.30-0ubuntu1. This is not a laptop, so the Intel integrated VGA is disabled. (No other cards in sysfs.)

Really nasty bug, as every time all the running applications detect that the X server went away and exit, logind terminates the session culling everyone, and so on.

Please ensure you have the package xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information.

I am actually running Debian. And the bug is more complicated than it
appears. Setting

options nvidia NVreg_EnableMSI=0

seems to help *sometimes*.

Once I get a better handle on the problem, I will file a proper bug
report with Debian and will cross-list it.
