Hi,
Thanks for getting back and apologies for the delay in responding.
I downloaded and ran the ISO as a live image, but it made no difference.
The cursor still flickers and disappears, sometimes for several seconds.
It seems to happen when there is background activity and it make the system unusable.
Let me know if you need anything else.

Steve, would installing the proprietary fglrx drivers provide a WORKAROUND as outlined in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/AMD ?
