Bug Description
(Date: 24 March 2005) I just installed Ubuntu 5.04 and it was working smoothly
for several hours until I installed all the updates available (287 updates).
After updating, my computer failed to complete the startup process with a
message that it "cannot start x and perhaps the settings are wrong" (cannot
remember exact words) and asks whether I want to view a log. I can no longer
select from the Yes/No option because the computer no longer responds. This
final screen is in text mode (in blue box). This is all I can remember.
I can only assume one of the updates is causing this but I cannot determine
which one since I just installed 287 updates. Since I am not familiar with
recovery mode, I just reformatted the Linux partition and reinstalled Ubuntu. I
am afraid to update my system unless this is resolved (but I don't know when).
My system is a Toshiba Sattelite A10 (PSA10L-0HJFHP) with 512MB RAM,
dual-booting between Windows XP Home in NTFS Partition (20MB) and Ubuntu Linux
partition (10MB).

Please attach your entire /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /var/log/ Xorg.0. log; it should
be safe to update your system since X has not changed since Hoary final.
