I have the same problem on Ubuntu 14.04 since 27/01/2015. nvidia-346 was installed and worked perfectly but now, for an unknown reason, the screen is turned off when lightdm starts. Nevertheless I can hear the lightdm start sound. I have installed the nvidia-current (nvidia-304) package. So now, my computer uses its intel graphic card instead of its nvidia graphic card. When I try to switch to the nvidia card with nvidia-prime, it fails... I have tried to install newer versions of the nvidia driver (nvidia-331 and then nvidia-340) but it does not change anything.

Changed in xorg (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → Critical

The issue no longer occurs with both `nvidia-346` 346.47-0ubuntu4 and `nvidia-349` 349.12-0ubuntu0~xedgers15.04.1 on Ubuntu 15.04-beta2 amd64 with `gdm`.
