Bug Description

On Utopic, after I start my laptop, the [fn] hotkeys for brightess control and locking the screen don't work, but after I resume the session from suspend, they finally work as expected.

I am really not sure which package is this bug related to, sorry for that.

It is Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn (fresh-installed from a beta image).
Graphics: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] RV516/M62-S [Mobility Radeon X1350] with the radeon driver.
DE: standard Unity

I also don't see the plymouth splash screen while starting up, but yes on shutting down, if this could be related.

I will be glad to provide other info if needed.

Thank you!

Franko Burolo, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=3442858&swLangOid=8&swEnvOid=2096 an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (F.0D). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette .

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status New.

Thank you for your understanding.

Thank you for your answer!
However, I must say I don't feel comfortable with flashing BIOS right now, because I don't really know how to do it, and I am in a mission critical situation ATM, so I would rather not risk ending up with an unbootable laptop. I do understand, after your response, that a BIOS upgrade could fix this, but I would rather postpone it for after I am done with my critical tasks at hand.
