Bug Description

only wallpaper in my Ubuntu desktop. No unity, no launcher, no panel nothing. Terminal also not working. But from login Gnome option works. And I'm sending report from there. Default Ubuntu gives only blank desktop, Right click on desktop works.

IT was a UEFI laptop I desabled everything once I tried to installed ubuntul in it.

Now no function key is working to enter into BIOS.

I don't know wt should I do?

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

Kazi Shahnoor Ashraf, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per http://www.sony-asia.com/support/product/svp13218pa/download an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (R1044V7). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette .

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status New.

Thank you for your understanding.
