Bug Description

on a freshly installed trusty (kubuntu) & asus x550lb notebook, nvidia geforce gt 740m, with an elantech touchpad, when moving the pointer with touchpad, the screen suddenly freezes. additionally, when the problem occurs, the following message is logged to the syslog:
acpid: client 11187[0:0] has disconnected

switching to character mode and back after waiting a few seconds (ctrl+alt+f1, ctrl+alt_f7) makes the problem disappear and the i see in the syslog the following:
acpid: client connected from 11187[0:0]
acpid: 1 client rule loaded

if i do something during the freeze (moving the pointer, clicking etc), it happens after the switchback.

Imre Széll, as per http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/X550LB/HelpDesk_Download/ an update to your BIOS is available (402). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette .

Thank you for your understanding.
