It seems like the inability to turn off your system from the cog in the right corner is probably unrelated to cairo-dock. All of this is completely unrelated to xorg, hence changing this over to cairo-dock.

Do you mean from the Unity panel or with the logout applet in the dock? If you've a problem only when using the one from the Unity panel, is it better if you remove the logout applet of the dock? If yes, it's maybe related to a bug with Unity.

Changed in cairo-dock (Ubuntu):
status: New → Incomplete

If I'm not mistaken, that's a known bug in Unity (or some sub-system like
upower).
anyway, why not just using the logout applet of the dock ?
or as Matttbe suggested, remove it from the dock.

@fabounet: if it's the same bug, should we maybe disable this logout applet in the default theme? This applet is not very interesting if we are using only one dock in another session than the one with Cairo-Dock as session manager.

Here the logout applet is not very useful if another panel is already used because panels of gnome, kde, unity, xfce, lxde, etc. already have a logout applet. If no other panel is available, I guess the Cairo-Dock session is used or the user knows how to enable this applet.

If you think it's absolutely needed to replace it by another one, maybe we can use Clipper or Stack.

the thing is, usually a desktop comes with a panel which already has the
basic features
so the first time a user runs the dock, it will automatically have
redundancy with what already exists on the desktop
(except if the user closes its session and opens a CD session, but I think
most of the time you just install a program and run it).

ultimately the goal is to only use the dock to have a light desktop, not
really to use the default shell + CD, so let's make the dock
so the question is:
do we want to provide by default something that can provide a complete
desktop interface, or just an addition to the default shell ?

let's not forget this bug only affects Unity, and we clearly identified the
problem (and it's not the Logout applet, it's the Launcher API daemon, the
Logout applet doesn't do anything until you click on it once)

it's not reasonable that 2 programs can't allow to shut down the computer
...

I think that most users used to do some actions, e.g.: clicking on the top right/bottom left to logout.
For me it's interesting to have redundancy but if something is different: the Applications Menu is different than the Unity dash, the Shortcuts applet has a completely different design than the Shortcuts applet of the Gnome Panel, etc.

Here I think the logout applet is mainly designed for the session because it provides the same actions as the other ones and users used to click on the other one. (According to the comments linked to the bug #1242112 most users didn't know that they can use the logout applet of the dock)

Oh... Sorry I misunderstood the problem :-/
Ok I will revert my previous modifications ;-)

But in fact, should I revert them? :-)
Because I don't think this logout applet is needed in the default theme but if it's the only solution to logout/restart/shutdown when the dock is running with Unity, I guess it's better to have it in the dock.
