Bug Description

Hvae not had problem before 14.04 - just updated.
Have made no changes to any hardware
Settings - Appearance - says Ubumtu (2560 x 1600)
Settings - Displays : allows upto 1920 x 1080 (16:9)

No matter what I try there is no top menu shown.
If I did not have experience with Ubuntu I would not have put my curser up to , say the upper-right and clicked to get/see the options like system settings, About this computer , etc.

Some time ago, I recall a screeen sizer option under system controls that allowed screen height, width, margin control.

Anyway - this is very disturbing to say the least - please help - thank you
