Bug Description

Screen Freezing. Turning down the volume seems to have at least decreased the frequency. I'm using nvidia-prime, and so had to update the kernel. Hope that's not the issue - cheers, Tamsyn.

TazX, could you please provide the full computer model as noted on the sticker?

As well, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ . If it remains an issue, please please just make a comment to this.

Thank you for your understanding.

The full computer model is the Gigabyte U24T-i5

I've not been able to update the kernel yet, but next time I'm somewhere with web access I'll be sure to download the iso, and boot into the live-usb. Will that do the trick?

I've installed Trusty Tahr, currently running kernel version 3.13.0-24-generic. I'm afraid I'm still suffering from random screen freezes. =(

Tazx, as per http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4639#bios an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (307). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette .

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your understanding.
