Bug Description

I upgraded to Ubuntu Trusty Tahr . Currently running with updates as of 6th Feb. 64bit.
After installing nvidia-prime and nvidia-331, i can see frequent mouse freezes. Once the mouse is frozen, it doesn't allow Alt+Tab functionality. Only way to get out of this is by pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1 . I can bring back by unloading and loading the psmouse module

modprobe -r psmouse.

Is there anything I can do to help trace this error?

This issue affects me too. I installed a fresh new copy, and installed nvidia-prime. My screen and mouse freezes frequently.

I think this is a duplicate of bug #1220426 but I don't see any way to link them. Anyway, I'm seeing this also.

Giorgio Dramis (jorged) wrote :

I don't think this bug is a duplicate, because i used my PC with a Gamepad and i have this freeze again. Now i try to disable my touchpad and to use a USB wirless mouse. After this attempt i give you a response.

I tried to disable my touchpad and to use a USB mouse and I have not encountered the bug again except when i use a steam's game or steam in big picture mode, but I think that is another bug.

I have a similar problem with GT460, however after mouse stops working, only reboot helps. Everything works on nouveau

I cure it by going into a virutal terminal and out again.

Hi. Have some issue.

Geforce GTX 860M on Ubuntu 14.04.

Installed prime and last nvidia driver 340.24

Same here with GK208M [GeForce GT 740M]

Rather than reboot, a work-around is ctrl-alt-f1 followed by ctrl-alt-f7

Sayantan Das, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg 1277245

Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information.

Thank you for your understanding.

Hi, I am still having that issue on 14.04 Lenovo T540p with nvidia-prime activated.

I had suspected it is 'Disable while typing' option in Mouse&Touchpad configuration however disabling the option does not solve the problem. At the same time 14.04 on Dell V131 does not have any issues with touchpad at all. Switching to any virtual console and back C-A-F7 is a workaround as mentioned above however does not solve actual problem. I wonder it is still 'Disable while typing' issue because I had similar issue in a past.

I have the same issues here

johnnynobody, it would help immensely if you filed a new report via a terminal:
ubuntu-bug xorg

Same problem and same fix as johnnobody, at the end i had to use internal intel card instead of nvidia 331.

This shouldn't be marked as expired. The bug still affects me, the display freezes periodically when using the nvidia card and can only be recovered by switching in an out of the dm. However, this makes normal work impossible. So I think everybody just uses their intel card instead. This doesn't mean that the bug doesnt exist.

Should this be done after the freeze occurs? For instance, from the
terminal? Or at anytime?
