My system freezes with Unity up to 2-3 times a day. With Gnome it happens much less frequently. Backtrace:
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/161997766/XorgLogOld.txt

In 14.04, I tried nvidia-331-updates drivers and I still get freezes.

Petr, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Thank you for your understanding.

I will download the latest from here http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/trusty-desktop-amd64.iso
Then install it as a virtual machine and let that run in parallel with my normal job. Hopefully, it will not happen any more :-)

have you fixed something for this?

Right, there was a suggestion to move to Gnome and the bug does not happen, but it does. Chrome seems to be the issue still for me.

dozens of people are reporting it. "trusty-test" is:
1. set up a pc or a laptop,
2. Make sure you trace everything what happens in the system before the freeze.
2. Run it for a week with Unity and Chrome - and it can deffo be reproducible.

What other kind of trusty test are we looking for an intermittent problem?

Petr, did you already upgrade to trusty? I did it about a month ago and there was not a single lockup since then. As this is also CLEVO hardware, it is probably related?

Hi, Hannes,

I have not to be honest. Will try now.

Cannot upgrade. The update manger is set to notify me when any new release is available. tried following
http://www.liberiangeek.net/2014/01/daily-ubuntu-tips-upgrade-to-ubuntu-14-04-trusty-tahr-from-13-10/

but my update manager says there are no updates and I am still on 13.10.

Right, the guy should have said it needed to be done with sudo, so

sudo update-manager -d

Did an upgrade, installed a lot of suff, rebooted, but the system still thinks it is 13.10. Let's see how it goes.

Petr, would using the nvidia drivers as per https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia provide a WORKAROUND?

Christopher, it does seem like what I should do, as when I start to watch video it crashes much quicker. Let me try. Thanks for the advice.

Christopher, I did reinstall 14.04 from ubuntu-14.04-beta2-desktop-amd64.iso. Also instaled nvidia-331-updates drivers and I still get freezes. :-( I also did a full memory test without any errors.

I use a fresh and the newest 14.04 Ubuntu/Unity version and with nouveau my systems freezes completely after 3-4 minutes. With Nvidia all is fine. Attached are some screenshots shortly before the freeze.

Petr, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information.

As well, given the information from the prior release is already available, testing a release prior to the development one would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.
