Bug Description

If I enable workspaces, either via the Settings/Appearance/Behavior or by changing the Horizontal and Vertical Sizes in CCSM / General Opt / Desktop Size, the Shortcuts Overlay no longer appears when I hold down Super. The launcher does still activate, however.

edubkendo, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Thank you for your understanding.

Here is a similar (same?) bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1243233

I have the same problem. My laptop has a resolution of 1366x768.
The shortcuts overlay only appears when workspaces are disabled.
But, when using an external monitor with a higher resolution (height), the overlay works even with workspaces enabled.

With workspaces enabled, the overlay displays an additional section (related to workspaces, obviously) with 3 shortcuts.
This makes the overlay bigger (it almost wouldn't fit a 1366x768 screen).
I think the bug is related to this (nothing related to Xorg).
The solution should simply be making the overlay smaller (there is a lot of padding).

@penalvch , should I just run that as a liveCD or do I need to actually upgrade my system to it. If so , is there a way to upgrade or will I need to reinstall?

Sure, I could file another Xorg bug.
But, like I said (maybe not clearly), I don't think this is a Xorg issue at all.

The problem is in Unity, I think.
With workspaces enabled, the overlay becomes too big for a screen with a height of 768 (or less), so it's not displayed.

But, if you insist I will file a new bug report for Xorg.
