Bug Description

When I start my computer, the login screen doesn't appear, but another screen displays that my compter is running in low level mode because it couldn't find my hardware.
This problem doesn't occur each time the computer is starting. Sometimes it works fine, ans sometimes it crashes.
This occurs since last update, where the kernel and xorg where updated. So, I can't tell what software is causing this trouble.

My computer is running Precise Pangolin 64bit for more than one year with no trouble. This is the first time I have a system bug.

My system :
Description: Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS
Release: 12.04
64 bits
NVidia GTX 680
16 Go RAM // 128Go SSD (system) // 1To HD (big files)
Motherboard : Asus P8Z77-V

The failsafe backup was made last time the trouvble occured.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1192378/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Hi serpass !
Thanx for your comments. I tried another thing that worked the only time I used it : I started with grub, and I choosed the kernel 3.2.0-44 instead of 3.2.0.48.
Can you click on the link " This bug affects 1 person. Does this bug affect you?" on the top of the page, thus the "Bug Heat" will increase ? Thx

Hi !
post-scriptum:
option "acpi=off" not good in that case because of "/usr/bin/X:0-auth/var/run/lightdm/root/:0-nolisten tcp vt7 -novtswitch"
running 50% cpu ,finally starting OK with option "nomodeset" .

The last update of the kernel, with a lot of other things like lightdm, libdrm, ... solved the bug. So I close that bug.

Changed in xorg-server (Ubuntu):
status: Confirmed → Fix Released
