X does not start on alternate after installing in virtualbox

Bug #1124214 reported by Paul Larson on 2013-02-13

xorg (Ubuntu)

Bug Description

After installing the 20120213.1 alternate image for precise, I should see X come up on the first boot, but instead it's leaving me at a console login.

In the Xorg.0.log, it seems to be having trouble loading the vboxvideo module and fails to ever give me a graphical desktop.
I tried installing virtualbox-ose-guest-dkms to see if it would help and got a build error on the module:
http://paste.ubuntu.com/1641967/ but shouldn't the failover mode work in vbox too?

You don't have the libpciaccess update that was supposed to address this bug here..
