Bug Description

Hey guys,

I don't which update caused my Ubuntu not to show anything, not even the starting screen, all I get is a black screen, I can see that it's loading because I see my HDD light blinking and my WiFi light turn on, but nothing on the screen itself.

It may be X or the drivers for the following Video cards (this is what my laptop has):

AMD Radeon HD 7690M
AMD Radeon HD 6620G

I know the screen is fine because I just re-installed Windows to send this bug report.

Thanks

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1085541/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need to know:
 - What version of Ubuntu are you running?
 - When was the update that caused this issue?
Thanks!

Hi Jorge,
  If you use shift during booting to get the 'grub' menu to display, it should let you choose a previous kernel version to try;
if that helps you then please add a note saying the kernel version that works and the version that fails.

Also can you describe the make and model of the machine you are using.

Dave

I can tell you that I have a HP dv6 Quad Edition Laptop, but I cannot
test the shift ket because as I said when I opened the bug, I installed
Windows to it so I could use it again.

OK, I'll leave it as 'incomplete' for the moment; if you get around to trying 12.10 again then please add any more detail you can and flip it back to 'New'.
There's probably not too much we can do without more diagnostics, other than to remember this and watch out for any similar reports.
Thanks for the report.

Are you using the proprietary video drivers (fglrx / fglrx-updates) ? This caused a problem for me.

Jorge you reported this a while back; is it still a problem for you? Have you tried more recent updates?

I honestly don't know, I changed my distro to opensuse long time ago.

OK, fair enough - I'll leave it as incomplete and it should close itself in a couple of months; leaves time for anyone else woh was affected at the same time to jump in.

The lastest update also breaks my computer, which uses NVidia graphic card. I tried purging nvidia-prime and nvidia-331 ( or nvidia-319) and everything went to normal. This might imply that the package that break this would be something related to Xorg.

Sorry for double commenting.

I'm current using Ubunty 14.04 Development Branch. The regression also happened recently as said above. I wonder if there's any similar patch for this.
