Whether the two failures are related is difficult to say; the SecondLife one seems to be failing with a fairly clear problem finding the dri modules:

libGL: OpenDriver: trying /tls/i965_dri.so
libGL: OpenDriver: trying /i965_dri.so
libGL error: dlopen /i965_dri.so failed (/i965_dri.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)

libGL error: dlopen /usr/lib/dri/i965_dri.so failed (/usr/lib/dri/i965_dri.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)

On my system the libgl1-mesa-dri package puts those in /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/dri/ and /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/i965_dri.so
the paths look like the RHEL/Fedora paths for 32/64 bit stuff.
I'd bet you can get that running with a few symlinks; but that looks more like like a secondlife problem than Ubuntu ???

The google-earth one is a segfault - difficult to know what's going on there; could be entirely different.

The graphics driver for the Intel Integrated Graphics Chip seems to have more issues:
Since the dist-upgrade of today my applications freeze when they try to open images (screenshot e.g.) or when I browse the web (Youtube, etc.) but also when I enter text in search boxes.

And for a weird reason the bug tracker will not allow me to open new bugs.

You load youtube and before it finishes the browser freezes. Then you type something into the search bar and the browser freezes again. You visit other websites with javascript interaction and the browser freezes. This happens also when you click the "star" symbol in the browser to bookmark or when you try to switch tabs.

But this is not a browser problem!! The behaviour changed with the "dist-upgrade" when new mesa and compiz packages arrived. I made sure there really was no code change of the browser.

Additionally, the screen snapshotting tool crashed during the file save option when I had the spotify client launched.

All in all totally unacceptable for updates to break my system like this.

Sad that I can not just switch operating systems like people advise me ....

Libre Office shows the same behaviour than Firefox with constant freezes.

Okay, sorry, but the mysterious application behaviour was due to a broken harddisk.

And since I decided to stop using Google Earth and Second Life we can close the bug report as "resolved".

It _seems_ to be a hardware related bug. Either the harddisk or the disk controller which causes these mysterious problems.

I forgot to add, that I was unable to test install Ubuntu 13.04 with the CD burned from 17.11.2012 and not with one from 08.01.2013. They either freeze before or directly after the selection screen regarding the prerequisites.

I am on a dual boot system (windows 7 and Ubuntu 13.04 64 bit) and I have not been able to get Second Life or any other Second Life viewer (firestorm, Kokua also tried) on this operating system. I tried installing 32 bit libraries but to no avail. I installed the most recent version of the stable release 13.04 64 bit on July 13, 2013. My graphics card is Nvidoa Geforce 9500 GT, I have 8 Gigs of Ram. I have absolutely zero issues running Second Life on the windows 7 OS. Everything is functional on windows. I have not tried Google Earth on my Ubuntu 13.04 64 bit OS but Second Life viewer fails to launch. This is a program I use typically on a almost daily basis and so is important to me for moving to the Ubuntu OS on my system.

drirc: Add "Second Life" quirk (allow_glsl_extension_directive_midshader).

Appears to fix shader compilation. Tested by starting the client,
dragging the "quality and speed" slider back and forth, and watching the
console output - instead of piles of "shader failed to compile", the CPU
seems to be busy compiling shaders. I haven't actually tried to play.
