Only proprietary nvidia driver works (but not needed for me).
nouveau or radeon, both give same at end of Xorg.log:

Fatal server error:

MacPro 2008, grub 2.0, booting via efi, kms works fine.
tried 8800gt, gtx560ti, radeon 6870/6970, all with efi part allowing to have efi bootscreen.
affects: | ubuntu → xorg (Ubuntu) |
radeon driver works only if i use these kernel args in bootloader: ro recovery
then pressing resume and I have the system booted.
