We suspect this bug may be a symptom of a memory leak (bug #929408) which will hopefully be fixed in the xserver 1.11.4-0ubuntu5 upload.

Please re-test with the new xserver and report back here.

This is still happening with 1.11.4-0ubuntu6 and it for sure only happens while the lid is closed, I wake up to the lightdm greeter every few mornings and have been having to avoid closing the lid or use xf86-input-mtrack where it doesn't happen to get around it.

note: there is a constant stream of events happening when my lid is closed and randomly many windows are open that I never opened (like 20 instances of gedit) sometimes, the lid apparently touches the touchpad

Lowering the priority a bit, it only happens with non default settings and only on this specific model of machine apparently
