I have the same problem.
I use freshly installed Kubuntu 11.10 32bit.
Video hardware is GMA 950 (i945G express chipset).

it seems that the backlight gets turned off. i can use the "increase screen brightness" button on the keyboard to turn the screen back on. similarly via sysfs:

cd /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/
sudo chmod a+w brightness

xrandr -s 1 ; grep -H . *brightness ; sleep 3 ; cat max_brightness > brightness ; grep -H . *brightness
actual_brightness:0
brightness:0
max_brightness:494
actual_brightness:494
brightness:494
max_brightness:494

with this, the screen is black for the 3 seconds and then is turned back on. takilaci, does that also work for you?

so, ill put xserver-xorg-video-intel as affected instead of xorg-server

affects: xorg-server (Ubuntu) → xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu)
