Bug Description

Am using an external keyboard on a laptop (Dell Studio 1555) and have noticed that on any external keyboard if I press Caps Lock on the laptop's own keyboard that the LED will not light on the external keyboard, although anything that I type on that keyboard will be capitalized. this was not a huge problem but I also recently got my hands on a Noppoo Choc Pro keyboard which apparently reports to the PC as several different keyboard controllers to achieve NKRO over USB and on that keyboard the Caps Lock LED does not function at all. I did verify that it functions 100% correctly in Windows 7, so it does not appear to be a problem with the keyboard, rather, I suspect that the Caps Lock key and the Caps Lock LED are reporting on two different virtual keyboard controllers. If I use the Noppoo keyboard as a PS/2 keyboard and then connect it to the PC through a Belkin active PS/2 to USB adapter, the Caps Lock LED functions correctly.

I was able to duplicate this behavior by connecting two keyboards to my desktop which was recently upgraded to 12.04. I used the Noppoo Choc Pro mentioned above as one of the keyboards and the behavior of Caps Lock was identical to that which I originally reported.

I also can reproduce the bug 100% on my T410.

Looks it should be one new kernel feature, and someone[1] worked on
it but not merged finally.

I have reported the bug onto upstream[2].

Hi,

The upstream kernel maintainer thought it is a X bug, see below link:

affects: linux (Ubuntu) → xorg-server (Ubuntu)

@N8N
This is an upstream issue. If this problem still persists in latest Ubuntu release, suggest you to file a new bug report to upstream bugzilla by following the instructions at http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/xorg.

Came here from

And confirm that this is also the case for NumLock (my CapsLock is repurposed, I have a Model M ;-) )
