Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

After installing Ubuntu 10.04 with my Samsung SyncMaster B2030, native resolution (1600X900) is not found in the list of resolutions, even 'detect monitors' option failed to detect my monitor.

WORKAROUND: Add native resolution:
xrandr --newmode "1600x900_60.00" 118.25 1600 1696 1856 2112 900 903 908 934 -hsync +vsync
xrandr --addmode VGA1 1600x900_60.00
xrandr --output VGA1 --mode 1600x900_60.00

I have the same issue, but with a different Samsung screen. I have a Samsung FX2490HD that works on 1920x1080, but Ubuntu only lists 1360x768.

I have the same issue (with the same monitor : Samsung SyncMaster B2030) in Ubuntu 12.04.
I tried xrandr approach and even that's not working.

Riyaz, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg-server REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given you already have done this in a prior release, performing this on a release prior to Trusty would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

I don't have latest distro to test this now, I can reopen the bug if I observe the issue when I reinstall the OS in sometime.

I have the same issue in 12.04 too.

apport-collect -p xorg-server 701772

is not giving me any output.

As of now my original workaround work like magic

xrandr --newmode "1600x900_60.00" 118.25 1600 1696 1856 2112 900 903 908 934 -hsync +vsync
xrandr --addmode VGA1 1600x900_60.00
xrandr --output VGA1 --mode 1600x900_60.00

Riyaz, as per http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/desktops-and-all-in-ones/thinkcentre-m-series-desktops/thinkcentre-m58p an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (5CKT77A). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette .

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status New. Otherwise, please mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.
