Comment 22 for bug 659764

The problem still happens, when the laptop lid is closed and an external monitor is connected.

Details:
 - same laptop as in original report
 - USB mouse and keyboard connected
 - external monitor connected (HDMI-DVI cable) - Hyundai W241D

Steps:
 - close laptop lid
 - boot Ubuntu 11.04 desktop i386 ISO (on a USB stick)
 - when booted, check screen resolution

It is 1024x768 and the The Monitor Preferences again offers only these 3 resolutions:
1024x768
800x600
640x480

If the laptop is booted with lid open and the external monitor is attached when it is fully booted, the resolution used on the external monitor is correct (1920x1200).
