Unfortunately, affects me too. The whole desktop works, but after the laptop lid is closed and re-opened, the log starts to fill with "Skipping EDID probe due to cached edid" records and the UI becomes unusable.

I have found a stable method to reproduce the bug on my system.
I start:

env WINEPREFIX="/home/balakirev/.wine" wine "C:/Program Files/Evernote/Evernote/Evernote.exe"

then got flicker and that in syslog:

Nov 14 05:12:57 balakirev-laptop acpid: client 1423[0:0] has disconnected
Nov 14 05:12:57 balakirev-laptop acpid: client connected from 1423[0:0]
Nov 14 05:12:57 balakirev-laptop acpid: 1 client rule loaded
Nov 14 05:12:57 balakirev-laptop kernel: [ 992.173811] Skipping EDID probe due to cached edid
Nov 14 05:13:21 balakirev-laptop kernel: [ 1015.467516] Skipping EDID probe due to cached edid
Nov 14 05:13:21 balakirev-laptop kernel: [ 1015.754956] Skipping EDID probe due to cached edid
Nov 14 05:13:24 balakirev-laptop kernel: [ 1018.536508] Skipping EDID probe due to cached edid
...

I have messages from acpid about client and from kernel about EDID every time when I start wine and every time I got flicker.
It can be somehow connected to the reasons of a bug and will help in it fixing.

The computer starts responding very slowly, the mouse cursor freezes for a quarter of second every 4 or 5 seconds... grey blocks appear randomly on screen.

Also affected, same information as above. Older compaq nc6220 intel Pentium M, and Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller (rev 03)

Any news on whether or not this will make the fix list any time soon?

I'm also affected, closing and re-opening the lid causes the display to flicker in irregualar intervals. I' using an Acer 1825 with an Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07) c.

Calling sudo get-edid, however, seems to fix the problem. Flickering does not occur anymore, until I close and re-open the lid again.

funnnny, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg-server REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Thank you for your understanding.
