xserver doesn't start on hp compaq nc8000 laptop

Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-core

I upgraded the xserver-xorg-core package to version 1:1.0.2-ubuntu10.3 and rebooted my laptop. After this, the xserver would not start. The error at the end of the log file is:

(II) ATI: Candidate "Device" section "ATI Technologies, Inc. RV350 NP [Mobility Radeon 9600/9700 M10/M11]".
(EE) No devices detected.

Fatal server error:
no screens found

Additional information:
The installation is ubuntu 06.06.1.
Hardware: ATI Mobility Radeon 9600, Intel Pentium M 1400MHz, 1GB RAM 60GB disk.

Workaround:
I downgraded to the version on the 06.06.1 install CD.

I just downloaded the new build (10.4) and this solved the problem.
