screen resolution changes when log out or change user

Hi, I am running Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid) and I have a problem when logging out or changing the user.

The first time I reach GDM screen after booting, everything works fine. I can enter my session and everything is fine. However, if I log out or try to change the user, the screen resolution changes and in the GDM login screen, part of my monitor is black (I am attaching pictures so you can see how it looks). After this happens, the problem is not in GDM only. If I try to log in again, the problem persists and the screen resolution is not the correct one.

If I restart GDM service, everything starts working fine again. However, it is very annoying to reset GDM every time I need to log out/change user.

I am using an Intel graphic card based on G45 chipset and my monitor is an LG L222WS. If you need any more information, please let me know.

After upgrading to Ubuntu 10.10, I still have this problem.
Are there any news related to it?

I was also wondering why this bug has low priority. I understand it's not a kernel panic, but if Ubuntu wants to be an easy-accessible OS, bugs like this one should not happen. They make Ubuntu look very amateur.

If there is any way I can obtain more information (through logs, debugging, etc.), please let me know and I will try to submit as much information as necessary in order to fix this problem.

Victor Jimenez, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg-server REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER
