Bug Description
Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-core
This happened to me by accepting the official update notification
about
xserver-xorg-core version : 1:1.0.2-0ubuntu10.3
After accepting this packege to install you should reboot your system.
While rebooting you get a great surprise as with error message "Failed to start X server (your graphical interface)"
Unfortunetly you can't start xserver neither gdm.
my solution is to downgrade the version by
>sudo apt-get install xserver-
after that
>startx
But be careful, sometimes you can lose your desktop settings after downgrade
